This is one of the lockdown behaviours that look likely to remain popular after restrictions are lifted, according to a new study for BBC News and King’s College London, conducted by Ipsos MORI

Almost a third of people, 31%, say they anticipate doing more of their shopping locally, according to the survey of 2200 people. A similar number (32%) anticipate working from home more, with 23% of commuters saying they’ll do less travelling to work than they used to. Forty percent 40% of those surveyed said they expected to walk more than before.

This trend towards spending, working and walking in local neighbourhoods could bring economic advantages to smaller towns and High Streets, many of which have been badly affected by the move to online shopping.
