Former Xystos director Tom Sykes is planning to travel to Ukraine next month, to take aid and Christmas presents to the country.
Tom and three colleagues are driving a motorhome, two trucks and trailers to East Europe – hopefully full of goodies – and would welcome donations until December 5. They are also looking for prizes for a blind auction.
Presents must be new and unwrapped. They need: dolls and action figures, gift sets for teenagers, men’s and women’s toiletries/gift sets, selection boxes, 0-2 year activity toys, colouring-in books and pens, blankets and warm clothing.
Other desired items are: generators (10 kW, 6kW), convectors heaters (up to 2 kW), first aid kits, spotlights and torches, Thermos flasks, sleeping bags, tents, sheets, folded chairs, food (dry/powdered food and milk, canned meat, oils, sweets), baby food, kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery, washing powder and liquids, hygiene products, nappies. mobile phone chargers, medication for children (paracetamol, ibuprofen, cough and sore throat medicine), medication for adults (anti-flu, paracetamol, ibuprofen, vitamins, nasal and eye drops, anti-vomiting, against stomach pains) and bandages.
Donations can be dropped off at Deal Direct Blind, Saltmeadows Road, Gateshead NE8 3AH.
