Moonpig shares new research into greeting cards

Moonpig Survey

New data from online retailer Moonpig has revealed the habits and sentiments people have towards keeping greeting cards.

A survey of 2,000 respondents of all ages in the UK conducted by OnePoll between July 3 and July 8 found that as a whole, 71% of Brits enjoy receiving cards from their loved ones, with eight in ten (82%) women admitting they like to receive cards, in contrast to under two-thirds (58%) of men.

Over two-thirds (68%) said receiving a card shows a personal touch from the sender. Additionally, over two-fifths (43%) appreciate the designs of the cards, and 40% enjoy the celebration that the card represents.

“We understand the impact that a card’s design has upon adding a personal touch to the overall message”

Moonpig global design & licensing director Sarah-Jane Porter commented: “We understand the impact that a card’s design has upon adding a personal touch to the overall message. Therefore, selecting a card that is reflective of the recipients’ interest is a direct way of showing how much they understand their loved one.”

The survey uncovered the number of cards Brits have held onto, finding that almost a third (29%) have kept more than 20. Two-thirds (66%) choose to keep cards because they were sent by a loved one, while just over half (54%) said it was because of the message inside, and 45% said it was because they had received it to celebrate a milestone.

The study not only looked into why Brits have card keepsakes but also how long they keep them, uncovering that a staggering 58% of people have kept a card for over 10 years. However, more than one in six (16%) of 18 to 24-year-olds have no keepsake cards older than a year – which could be due to the younger generation being more active on social media where some express their well wishes.
